This is an old picture, but this is what I was pushing on my run. Only Michael now weighs thirty pounds not fifteen.
For those of you who read my blogs, you know that I write often about exercising. It’s something I enjoy and because pregnancy drastically affects the way I exercise and how my body responds to it, I find myself blogging about these experiences.
More times that not, I’ve actually been surprised by how well my pregnant body responds to exercise. I’ve participated …

I look forward to breastfeeding my son
I went to my first prenatal class this past week and the focus was on breastfeeding. I was surprised to find out that it is not as straight forward as I expected.
We also learned a lot more than just how to breastfeed. The class started by answering why it is good to breastfeed. Then we went into a review of the anatomy of the breast, cues that a newborn is hungry, and feeding frequency and duration. It was helpful to learn more than one position to breastfeed and we got to practice different techniques with a …

Circumcision is a big decison for new parents to make
One big decision my husband and I have to make early on in our son’s life is whether or not to have him circumcised.
I know this can be a touchy topic but I will just talk about my own feelings on this topic and readers can know that this is just one opinion. I’m not going to get into whether or not to circumcise, that is a personal decision for each family to make.
My main concern if I do have him circumcised is that I don’t want him done …

My mother always told my sisters and me that once the baby is born, you experience postpartum amnesia and don’t remember all the details of being pregnant. Her contention is that if everyone truly remembered everything about previous pregnancies, no one would ever have a second child.
My memories of my first two pregnancies are still fairly sharp, helped perhaps by how recent they were. My oldest will be a few weeks shy of three-and-a-half years old and his little sister will be twenty-two months old when New Baby joins the clan this summer. Yikes! But there are still a few things about this pregnancy that I don’t remember happening this early …
Labor and delivery can be an overwhelming experience for many moms-to-be, especially if it’s the first child. Read the excerpt /watch the movie from our OHealthy library to demystify this process:
Labor differs from woman to woman and from pregnancy to pregnancy, but common signs and symptoms can let you know when it is starting. Contractions that increase in strength and frequency are a sure sign you are in true labor.
This video discusses the three stages of labor and delivery, as well as types of delivery. Watch the labor and delivery video now!
Although the temptation is there, Charlie and I will not pay for a 3D sonogram to find out the gender of our baby.
My anatomy scan is not scheduled for a few more weeks; I’ll be 23 weeks by the time we’ll find out, but we can wait until then. What’s three more weeks?
I know it’s popular to pay for a sonogram to find out the gender early. I have nothing against those who have done it or want to do it. It’s just not for us.
First, we don’t want to pay for something that we’ll get for free in a few weeks. Sometimes the anatomical sonogram doesn’t provide a clear picture …
I have committed to running the Marine Corps Marathon with friends of mine. I’m taking it seriously by running now so that I have a foundation before the baby arrives in July.
The marathon is on Halloween weekend. I will have three months to train for it. The longest race I’ve ever run is a 10k, which is hardly even close to 26.2 miles.
Even before we realized we have one on the way, I wasn’t running much at all. Running is not exactly my most favorite way to exercise. It’s actually my least favorite, but how can I let friends of mine run the marathon while I just …

My siblings
Reactions to new siblings have always been interesting to me. As the oldest of five kids, I had more than a few of my own, in addition to being able to see the reactions of my other siblings to each other.
I was always fine with another one – I’ve been fairly maternal and bossy from an early age, so the more the merrier as far as I was concerned. Laura, the third, was reasonably even-tempered and didn’t seem to mind the next two arrivals. My brother Sam, the fourth and first boy, was thrilled when Mike, the last, finally came along to relieve him from …
I read an article online that provided tips for a good night’s sleep during pregnancy. Of course I am not as comfortable at night as I normally would be, but all in all, I sleep pretty well during pregnancy. In the past week I’ve slept through the night four times and this is how I do it.
I’m a back sleeper. Now that I’m half way through this pregnancy, I know it’s not advised to sleep on my back anymore. If you haven’t heard, it’s best to sleep on your left side. It allows proper blood flow to your lower extremities and also the baby. I began to sleep on my …

Our new car!
When we moved out here to the East Coast, I left my VW Passat in California. It was an older car and we figured it wouldn’t make the drive across the country. So we came over with one car, a 2006 Audi 4-door. We figured that when we got here we would look into getting a car for the baby. Our search led us to realize that not only did we need space for the baby in the back seat; we also needed space for our 100lb dog in the way back. Axel, our dog would love to sit in the back seat with …
