We Are Graduating to Cuddlebugs!
I can’t believe it but Owen is now 3 months old. I started blogging here when I was just 12 weeks pregnant and could not imagine the time when my baby would not only be here but be 3 months old. Time has passed so quickly and this is only the beginning of parenthood. I really enjoyed my pregnancy and sharing my feelings of fear and excitement with the TummyTime crew. I realized that my worries were shared with many other women in the same stage of pregnancy. It helped me a lot to read other women’s stories and comments. Additionally I now have a wonderful record of my pregnancy that I can one day share with Owen. I can just see him rolling his eyes when he is 12 years old and I read to him about my pregnancy cravings. It is a period of time I look back on
He’s Reaching
I love going to the pediatrician’s office and learning about the next set of milestones Owen should be reaching. My doctor is great about telling me what to look for and explaining what should be happening in the next couple of months. He is careful not to say that every baby should be doing this or that by a certain time frame; he has been in practice a long time and knows how to talk to moms. At the last visit he said that in the next few weeks Owen should start to try to grab toys. He explained that a newborn usually keeps their hands in a fist and will start to open the fist to grab things between 2-4 months. He said the floor gym was the best place to look for this opening of the hands as he tries to catch the animals hanging above him. First
Dare I Say We Have a Routine?
While I am a fan of having a routine for the day, I knew that it was unrealistic to try to put a newborn on a schedule. So I haven’t done that but I have been keeping track of when my baby eats and sleeps. Over the past few weeks, he seems to be doing a few things very consistently to the point that I can count on them. The first is his nighttime habits; he is ready for bed at 7:30 and will fall asleep when put in the bassinet while sleepy. He will then sleep for 5-6 hours! This is great for him to do such a stretch but less great for me because I can’t go to bed at 7:30. I go to be around 10-11 and get a couple of hours before getting up. I know that I should try to go to bed earlier but
Our First Road Trip
We just took Owen on his first road trip to South Carolina. The drive was going to take about 7 hours. The first thing I had to do was pack for the trip. Since Owen has joined us, we seem to have three times the amount of “stuff” anytime we go somewhere. I try to be prepared for any situation and want him to have all the comforts of home so we end up bringing everything. With the car packed to the gills, I felt ready for the adventure. We left during Owen’s morning nap which was helpful; he slept for the first couple of hours. Once he woke up we made a stop so that I could feed him and change his diaper. Then he was in great spirits and we sang songs, read books, and played with toys. I realized that it wasn’t all that different from a
Girl’s Night Out
Two of my close friends have also recently had babies; Owen falls in between the two other babies in age. We have been talking about going out for some time and we finally made it happen this past Friday night. It took much more than just the idea and desire, we had some planning to do. The first issue was time: we decided that we would try to feed the babies and put them to bed before going out. It was hoped that they would sleep the whole time we were gone so that they wouldn’t have to be fed. We had all pumped prior in case our babies woke up but we hoped to save the milk for another time, it is a precious commodity. The next issue was what to wear. I am still not comfortable in my pre-pregnancy clothes but I am so tired of my maternity
