Alexis Schulman

My name is Alexis Schulman and I’m a born and raised Jersey shore girl. I grew up 5 minutes from the beach, so bare feet and a sand filled jeep were always the normal for me. Living in such a diverse place constantly awarded me the opportunity to explore almost any activity I was interested in. These ranged from simply lounging in the sun at the beach to rock climbing in northern New Jersey to eating my way through New York City. I always considered my life complete because I was blessed with a great family, the two best friends a girl could ever have and an amazing career as a forester. Then I met my now husband Jason. Our parents were best friends for years, but Jason and I never met. He moved to California the year before we met and I was busy going to college and traveling everywhere I could. When I came back from Europe in June of 2008, I finally met the man of my dreams on his birthday. After traveling to California to see him almost twice every month, he moved back to New Jersey that November to start a life with me. In March 2009, Jason and his little brother decided to join the Marine Corps and that May they were both off to boot camp. After graduation, we were engaged to be married, and because of the unpredictable nature of the military, we decided to get married during Christmas leave on December 27th. Our ceremony was tiny, consisting of our closest family and friends in Atlantic City, NJ. I couldn’t ask for a more gorgeous day. This August, I decided to leave Rutgers University when Jason was stationed here in Jacksonville. A week after we moved here, we found out that we were pregnant! Now here we are, transitioning into the 2nd trimester with our first sonogram on October 29th, due on Mother’s Day 2011 and loving every single decision we’ve made that landed us here. I look forward to sharing our fairytale and perhaps helping others and learning from them too.

Big Brother is Jealous of Baby Sister

My son has been having a really hard time adjusting to his little sister. He shows her love by hugging and kissing her and I know that he genuinely loves her so that has never been a problem. There are moments when he wants to be the center of attention and gets mad when his baby sister is getting all the attention. Every other night he wakes up in the middle of the night. Sometimes he is crying and sometimes he roams around the house looking sad. It breaks my heart to see him this way. I usually wake up and go check on him. Sometimes he is already awake and gets up and heads into the living room. He looks so sad so I scoop him up into my arms and hug him tight. I give him a few sips of juice or water and then let him climb

Dogs and Babies

At first I was a little worried about how my dog, Thomas, would react to the baby coming home. It was bad enough that my son was still getting used to to her, but now my dog had to adjust to another child in the household. His place in the hierarchy of our household has moved down one more notch. The first time we brought little Daiyana home, Thomas’s ears and eyes perked up. He immediately smelled something new in the house and could feel her presence. I let him out of his kennel cage and allowed him to roam around the house sniffing. I then sat down on the couch with her and let him take a look at her. Thomas loves her! Wow! I really thought he was going to be upset and throw a doggie tantrum. Thomas has been around in my life since before I met my

Traveling With A Newborn and A Pre-Toddler

My husband and I decided to take our little family on a road trip. We packed up our son, newborn daughter, and our little dog “Thomas” for an exciting fun filled trip. I rented an SUV so that we would have some leg room and be comfortable for the long ride. We went to Myrtle Beach, Baltimore, and Orlando to spend time as a family and visit relatives. We had so much fun, but there were times when we were reminded that we now have two kids. In Myrtle Beach we went to Medieval Times and the mall. There were times when both kids needed to have a diaper change and mommy and daddy had to use the bathroom. Once again my husband and I have become a tag team duo. He changed one child while I watched another. After both kids were changed one of us would go to

Unwanted Baby Touching; Wash your hands!

My husband and I have taken our new baby to the mall and to the grocery a few times. I don’t mind people admiring her and saying nice comments, but its another thing to want to hold and touch her. People really don’t get that she is a newborn and doesn’t have all her shots and we don’t know where their hands have been. Germs are definitely real and let’s face it, there are a lot of people out there who don’t wash their hands. I feel like a crazy mom insisting people wash their hands. Sometimes people look at me like I’ve really lost it and they don’t understand why they have to wash their hands. Seriously? I shouldn’t feel guilty for wanting to protect my baby from microscopic organisms on someone’s hands just because their too lazy and unsanitary about washing their hands. As a mother I have

Being Prepared For Baby At ALL Times

The other day my family decided to head to the mall for a little shopping. As soon as we got into the mall we headed to the bathrooms for a potty break and diaper changes. This is when we realized that our daughter had a big poopie accident and needed a change of clothes. This is also when we realized she didn’t have a change of clothes in her bag. I had to go to a children’s store in the mall and scramble to buy her an outfit. Once my husband got her all changed it was time for my son to be changed. This was when we realized that he needed a change of clothes too because he wet himself. We didn’t have an extra outfit for him so we had to go to back to the children’s store and buy him an outfit. Needless to say we spent
