Laura Waller

My name is Laura Waller and I attended Appalachian State University. After college I moved to Washington DC where I taught Kindergarten. The best part of my time in DC was meeting my wonderful husband Jacob. After enjoying all the excitement of DC, we moved back to Eastern North Carolina, where I continued teaching. After trying for a while to get pregnant and meeting with infertility doctors, we welcomed our first child, Elliana, into the world. Elliana means “my God has answered” and she certainly is our answered prayer. We decided that I would stay home to be with Elli full time. When Elli turned one year old, I decided to cheat a little on the “stay at home” gig and take a part time job working with refugee families in the school systems. That job will end in the Spring of 2012 and, as timing would have it, our second baby is due in May. At this point in time, my days are consumed with keeping up with Elli (which is harder than it sounds), working, trying to find exciting activities around Eastern NC for our family to experience, an occasional work out, and honestly - an occasional nap. I know things are certainly going to change in our house and in some ways that makes me a bit nervous so I am always excited to get advice from experienced moms!

Although I currently live in Hubert, NC, I am not originally from the area. I am a true blue yankee! I was born and raised in New York with the snow and crazy weather. Living in the south is a huge change for me. What brought me here? Good Ol’ Uncle Sam! My husband and I are high school sweet hearts. We grew up in the same small town and lived about 5 minutes from one another. He is 3 years older than me so technically we are my high school, his college years sweet hearts; if you can follow that thought. After a couple years of Nascar school and working in Nascar my husband decided to join the Marine Corps. At this point I had just graduated from a 2 year college with my associates degree and was on my way to Champlain College in Vermont. I stayed there for a summer session and the fall semester before we were married January 2, 2010. Now here we are, newlyweds and expecting our first child! We technically already have our first born though, our 1 year old golden retriever Bo. He is definitely my baby but he will love having a little brother or sister. We are due March 8, 2011 and unfortunately my husband is scheduled to deploy sometime in February or March. Fingers are crossed that he will be here for the birth! We have a complicated pregnancy because I have uterus didelphys. That means I have 2 uteruses and this comes with possible complications. We have made it 20 weeks as of October 19 with no problems (knock on wood) and we should find out soon (October 25) if we are having a boy or a girl! I am so excited to be apart of this wonderful blog family. Stay tuned to share the excitement and learn more about me and my family!
