Molly Mathews

My name is Molly. I have been married for 5 years and have two children. A 10 year old step-son, a 2 year old daughter and I am currently 26 weeks pregnant with a boy! I live in the town I grew up in and have a large family that I see often. We all live close to each other right now and I hope it stays that way as we draw a lot of support from one another. I have been a nurse for 6 years, mostly in the emergency department, and I love my job. Since young childhood I dreamed of being a nurse and a mom and here I am both! I couldn't have imagined how difficult the journey would be but neither could I have fathomed the Joy that would come from both. Becoming a mom has made me into a better person in many ways and a bit of a crazy worry wart in other ways! Having support from other moms who have been there before or are there with you makes all the difference in the world!

Pregnancy and Summer Heat

I’ve been lucky with my previous two pregnancies. Neither of them ran through the summer. I found out I was pregnant with Benjamin in August; I delivered Wyatt in the beginning of June. This time, though, I’m right smack in the middle of summer when I’m right in the middle of my pregnancy. And it is killing me.

I hadn’t thought it would be that bad at first. And hey, as long as I stay inside (in the air conditioning), it isn’t that bad. I actually looked forward to being able to wear cute summer maternity clothes. But now, anytime I have to go outside, it is miserable.

I had heard all of the warnings and complaints about pregnancy in the summer, but I guess I just didn’t really think much of them. But now that we’re getting into July, it is kicking my butt. I feel sluggish and tired normally when I’m pregnant. Now, it’s a thousand times worse. I only have to be outside for a few minutes before I’m sweating and thinking that I need to get my butt back inside. It has not been fun. And another fun fact is that apparently, you’re more susceptible to sunburns when you’re pregnant. I learned this firsthand on the Fourth of July when I got a whopper of a sunburn. And the sunburn just made the heat so much better (not). This summer, so far, has been miserable.

The only difference has been — surprise surprise! — being at a pool. Because of course, being in a pool can keep me cooled down, and it’s also nice for my back, which is already starting to hurt occasionally. I wish I knew some better ways to beat the heat besides hiding out in the AC, or immersing myself into a cold pool though!
