Molly Mathews

My name is Molly. I have been married for 5 years and have two children. A 10 year old step-son, a 2 year old daughter and I am currently 26 weeks pregnant with a boy! I live in the town I grew up in and have a large family that I see often. We all live close to each other right now and I hope it stays that way as we draw a lot of support from one another. I have been a nurse for 6 years, mostly in the emergency department, and I love my job. Since young childhood I dreamed of being a nurse and a mom and here I am both! I couldn't have imagined how difficult the journey would be but neither could I have fathomed the Joy that would come from both. Becoming a mom has made me into a better person in many ways and a bit of a crazy worry wart in other ways! Having support from other moms who have been there before or are there with you makes all the difference in the world!

Cute Pregnancy Announcement Ideas

That was what was on my mind after I found out I was pregnant. It’s our third baby, but all the same, I wanted to do something a little different and unique. I wanted to make it special for Matt, and for our family and friends.

So I got to googling. The most obvious idea was to put Benjamin and Wyatt into big brother shirts. But I wasn’t crazy about that, because for one thing, Benjamin’s already a big brother. Plus, that would take planning and time, and I wanted to tell Matt right away. I saw a cute idea about ordering a puzzle that he could put together, and would then find out I was pregnant. But again, that would have taken weeks. And there’s no way I could have waited weeks to tell him.

It was right before Easter, and I had a bunch of Easter eggs, so I thought maybe I could incorporate that into the surprise. Then I noticed that I had sesame seeds, and I had my idea. I placed one of the seeds inside an Easter egg and gave it to Matt, who was very confused when he opened it — until I explained to him that the seed was how big his baby was right now. It took him a second, but he was so excited when he caught on! I loved the seed idea, and Matt really loved it too. Everyone he talks to about the pregnancy, he tells that story.

Then it came down to telling family and friends. We told our parents over the phone, but how could we tell the rest of the world? Lately, there have been two announcements I’ve seen a lot of. The first was framing the announcement as a movie poster (New Baby, Coming December 2013!). It’s a cute idea, but it didn’t really speak to me. I’ve also seen a lot of the shoe announcements — a shot of everyone’s feet in the family, with tiny baby shoes included. Usually, the accompanying caption is that the family is growing by two feet. I actually really liked this idea, but considering my two are so young, it just didn’t seem plausible.

I ended up going for the obvious. I put a little bun in my oven (literally), and took a picture. I then posted the picture with the caption, “When does 2+2=5?”. I loved it! The reception was great. I got tons of compliments on the announcement. Altogether, I’m really happy with how I ended up announcing the pregnancy to everyone. Next is how we’ll announce the gender!
