Laura Waller

My name is Laura Waller and I attended Appalachian State University. After college I moved to Washington DC where I taught Kindergarten. The best part of my time in DC was meeting my wonderful husband Jacob. After enjoying all the excitement of DC, we moved back to Eastern North Carolina, where I continued teaching. After trying for a while to get pregnant and meeting with infertility doctors, we welcomed our first child, Elliana, into the world. Elliana means “my God has answered” and she certainly is our answered prayer. We decided that I would stay home to be with Elli full time. When Elli turned one year old, I decided to cheat a little on the “stay at home” gig and take a part time job working with refugee families in the school systems. That job will end in the Spring of 2012 and, as timing would have it, our second baby is due in May. At this point in time, my days are consumed with keeping up with Elli (which is harder than it sounds), working, trying to find exciting activities around Eastern NC for our family to experience, an occasional work out, and honestly - an occasional nap. I know things are certainly going to change in our house and in some ways that makes me a bit nervous so I am always excited to get advice from experienced moms!

What a Year

I love being a mom to this little boy.

2011 has been such an amazing year, and it’s not even over yet! I just want to recap all the excitement and the blessings Blake and I have experienced so far, mostly, the fact that we became parents to the most beautiful baby boy in the world.

  • January- We prepared for the birth of our first baby. I was 8 months pregnant even though I felt like I had been pregnant for over a year!
  • February- I was getting scared and crying a lot: One, I had never given birth to anyone before and I was so scared it would hurt. Two, I didn’t know if I would be a good mom or not.
  • March- Getting impatient… baby became over due… then, Blake and I became parents.
  • April- Getting used to being parents and losing sleep. We were anxiously awaiting the first milestone Levi would have! Levi also experienced his First Easter!
  • May- I got to enjoy my first Mother’s Day!
  • June- Levi started to push himself off the ground, becoming a strong little man! This is also the month he began rejecting taking a bottle…
  • July- Levi started learning to pivot his body and he’d been making some cute little noises!
  • August- Levi rolled over for the first time, right before I went back to school. We were so excited Blake didn’t miss it!
  • September- Levi started trying to crawl by pulling himself on the ground.
  • October- Levi crawled for the first time the right way!!
  • November- We’ll be celebrating Levi’s first Thanksgiving with my family in Florida.

Even though December isn’t here, yet, it’s right around the corner. We’ll be moving to Texas, Blake will be out of the Marine Corps starting a new job and we’ll be celebrating Levi’s first Christmas with Blake’s family in Texas. This year has brought so many blessings. It’s amazing to look back and think about how it used to feel when Levi was rolling around in my belly until the time came to push. From the state of shock I was in when he was brought into this world to the crazy overprotective mother I’ve become, I wouldn’t change a thing that God has blessed us with this year.

What blessings have you been given this year?
