Molly Mathews

My name is Molly. I have been married for 5 years and have two children. A 10 year old step-son, a 2 year old daughter and I am currently 26 weeks pregnant with a boy! I live in the town I grew up in and have a large family that I see often. We all live close to each other right now and I hope it stays that way as we draw a lot of support from one another. I have been a nurse for 6 years, mostly in the emergency department, and I love my job. Since young childhood I dreamed of being a nurse and a mom and here I am both! I couldn't have imagined how difficult the journey would be but neither could I have fathomed the Joy that would come from both. Becoming a mom has made me into a better person in many ways and a bit of a crazy worry wart in other ways! Having support from other moms who have been there before or are there with you makes all the difference in the world!

Pregnancy Gas –So Embarrassing!

Nora as a baby

My husband firmly believed that girls did not poop or burp or pas gas prior to our marriage three years ago. He doesn’t like it when girls engage in these behaviors around him because they, “gross him out.”  Prior to pregnancy I could discreetly pass gas in another room and never had a problem with burping. I don’t drink sodas so my urge to burp was pretty much nonexistent.

Ever since I got pregnant my digestion has slowed down to ensure my body is absorbing every single nutrient the baby might possibly need. As a result I’m unusually gassy. Seriously folks – gas is a terrible problem for me these days! My poor husband is suffering the consequences. I just cannot make it out of the room fast enough! So I have given up trying and usually try to pass it quietly while sitting next to my husband.

I read on one pregnancy forum (yes, I’ve been stalking pregnancy forums these days) that 1. a lot of women have this problem (hurray! I’m not alone!) and 2. most of them blame their gas on their dog or their child who can’t defend themselves.

I don’t have a dog to blame my gas on and once I tried to blame it on Nora and when Garrett looked at me I burst into laughter. I didn’t feel right blaming it on her when she didn’t do it so I didn’t blame her again. I’ve tried to pretend I don’t know what the noise was but I just can’t seem to lie! The second Garrett looks at me funny or asks, “Did you pass gas?” I start to laugh. The second I laugh the gig is up and Garrett knows it was me.

We must be passing a lot of gas in our house these days because Nora has started identifying who passed gas. We either hear: “I farted,” “Daddy farted!” or “Mommy farted!” at least three times a day. Okay, so maybe it’s more like twenty.

Did you/Do you have more gas when you’re pregnant?

hahah! Yes, I do! Although Luckily her hardly ever hears them, with the noises on the farm or me being at school and kids noise, I have yet to have an awkward situation.

Gas runs in my family, not gonna lie. Your husband probably wouldn’t be able to stand being around me pregnant lol Luckily Blake doesn’t mind my problem because he understands its common among us pregnant ladies, if anything he finds it funny and laughs. A couple of our friends are pregnant, too so he’s around it more than anyone should be 3x worse hahaha. You’ll be alright, just stick a dryer sheet in your pants and maybe it will “febreeze” the smell!

Toni- You are so lucky that farm/students are covering for you! I have terrible luck and really have given up all hope of being discrete. You’ll have to keep me posted on any funny gas stories- you’ll be INCREDIBLY lucky if you can keep it under wraps the entire pregnancy!

Jessica- Thankfully my husband is coming around and just laughs nowr! He missed out on all of this the first time around (due to a deployment) so all of this is new to him. I think I’m extra gassy this time too. I don’t remember it being so bad last time! You are hilarious with putting a dryer sheet in my pants! I’ve totally never heard of that before. I’d be afraid it’d bunch up and it would look like I pooped my pants, lol! How’s the meeting Levi process going? Hope you’ll get to meet him soon!

hahaha febreeze smelling poop in the pants some might think hahaha. At least your husband can find the humor in pregnancy, or what some may say as the beauty of pregnancy !! And my little Levi, he’s still in there.. I have a non stress test tomorrow to see if the placenta is looking good and if he has enough fluids in there still but if I don’t “pass” the test they’re going to induce me right then and there. If I do pass then I have another test set up for next Tuesday, same procedure and induction possibiity. Thennnnnnnn if he still hasn’t come out they have me on the calendar for induction at 7am on April Fool’s Day lol Wow is all I can say. He’s going to be a little stinker I’m sure and wait to be forced out!

Hahaha! My husband swore it just dissipated in our bodies. haha. I’ve had a TON of gas and it’s seriously uncontrollable. There’s no holding it in. So I don’t fight it anymore. Hubs said I’ve ruined him. I passed it off on our smelly boxer a few times bc luckily I don;t have a cute little taddle tale yet. Let it out girl!!

I can’t believe you’re still pregnant! You must be an extra-good pregnancy “host” for him to want to stay in you so long! I’ll keep you in my prayers that things will go well for you these next couple of weeks!

I’m so glad I’m not the only one with a gas problem! Darn babies!.. How lucky you are to have a boxer to blame your gas on :) !
