38 Weeks
As ya’ll already know from my “37 Weeks” post Levi has unbreeched his position! So when we went for our appointment 2 days before my 38th week mark I was prepared to ask a couple of questions: 1.Has my cervix dialated at all? 2. Do you think I’m making enough progress to deliver before my due date? I know the doctor’s can’t predict if you’ll deliver early or late, but I welcome any guesses or predictions with an open cervix!
Okay I’m ahead of myself… my cervix has not dialated at all, which was a bummer to hear. However, my cervix is getting softer so it’s preparing to become efaced! That was good news to us. As for the answers to my questions, number 1 was a no and number 2 (guesstimate) was “probably at least not for another week.” Bummer news again, maybe not an early baby.
What is a due date though? Who’s to say that your baby is early or late? Truth is, after your 38th week mark your baby can come at any time between then and the 42nd week. The only reason we’re given due dates is because that date marks the middle of that time period. I guess you could say that it’s a date to look forward to.
Has anyone delivered on their due date? If you’re still pregnant, do you think you’re baby will come “early” or “late?”

All I can say to this is don’t wish her early. I know it’s frustrating to wait to long and I”m sure you’re as miserable as I was but from experience it’s soooo important to let him come when he’s ready.
Abigail had a little respiratory problem when she was born. Thankfully it was just because she was a c section so all the stuff in her lungs wasn’t pushed out during the labor process. It was a simple fix with some suction. My point is my heart dropped when they said she had respiratory problems because I remembered when my doctor told me that some babies need that extra time to fully develop their lungs.
I bet it will help you get through this last little stretch knowing that each day that goes by without Levi means that that was one more day he had to develop further and become a super healthy baby
I’m with Breanna on this one. Our Emily was only ten days early due to her scheduled c-section. Even just ten days early was too early for her – she was born with underdeveloped lungs necessitating four days in the NICU, two here at Onslow and two up at Pitt. She was flown up to Pitt before I had been discharged, do I had to watch her be wheeled away and not see her for almost a day. It truly was the *hardest* mom moment for me yet. Needless to say, my next c-section was done much closer to my due date. I remember how awful those last days of pregnancy are, but it’s worth it for a healthy baby. Good luck with the last few weeks, and sorry for the novel!
haha thanks girls. I’m a little past 39 weeks now and he’s ready to come out but I’m having problems with my cervix from scar tissue when I was 18 years old, so I’m not wishing him early technically lol I’m wishing my cervix would cooperate! I’ll be writing a post about my 39 week appointment, but by the time it posts I’m may be a mom already lol
