Maeve takes a bottle
I consider myself to be fortunate because my body produces more than enough milk for my babies. It does cause me discomfort since I’m engorged on a daily basis, but at least my babies aren’t going hungry.
I bought a pump to store milk to use on a later date. When Charlie comes home, it will be nice for him to be able to feed Maeve a bottle once in a while. They can have their time together and catch up for the first five months that they lost.
I also want to pump so that if Maeve weans herself from breast feeding, I can bottle-feed her with my breast milk for a few more weeks. Michael stopped nursing at 11 months of age. I put him on formula for the remainder of his first year, which I wouldn’t have needed to do if only I’d thought to pump and freeze the milk for later.
I was anxious to introduce the bottle to Maeve. Michael wouldn’t take a bottle at her age, which made me nervous that Maeve would resist it too. Luckily, she gulped down the milk from the bottle as if she’s only been bottle fed her whole life. I couldn’t believe it! So much for my worries.
Did you have any issues with getting your infant to take a bottle for the first time?
