Molly Mathews

My name is Molly. I have been married for 5 years and have two children. A 10 year old step-son, a 2 year old daughter and I am currently 26 weeks pregnant with a boy! I live in the town I grew up in and have a large family that I see often. We all live close to each other right now and I hope it stays that way as we draw a lot of support from one another. I have been a nurse for 6 years, mostly in the emergency department, and I love my job. Since young childhood I dreamed of being a nurse and a mom and here I am both! I couldn't have imagined how difficult the journey would be but neither could I have fathomed the Joy that would come from both. Becoming a mom has made me into a better person in many ways and a bit of a crazy worry wart in other ways! Having support from other moms who have been there before or are there with you makes all the difference in the world!

How Many Ways Can You Carry A Baby?

214703_baby_in_daddys_arms_3I was looking over my baby registry today and realized I have a ridiculous number of baby carrying devices.  What did people do in the good old days?

I think most babies were carried on mom’s hip.  It seems like today we are trying to do everything we can, not to use our arms.  One of my theories is that we are in a multi-tasking world now and that we’ve got to not only care for the baby but get other work done at the same time. We have hands free phones so why not hands free baby carrying? Or maybe it is just that there are so many options now that we feel like we need all of them.

Here is an actual report of everything that I have on my registry to help carry my baby.

  1. Car seat (will be used for more than just the car)
  2. Baby swing
  3. Stroller
  4. Back pack
  5. Baby Bjorn
  6. Bouncy seat
  7. Sling

I don’t know if this is overkill but I really would like all these things.  I’ve heard that some babies like certain things and hate others and you don’t know until you try them out.  I have a friend whose baby hates to be in a stroller and another friend whose baby hates the sling.  My niece loves her bouncy seat but not the swing.  We may not get all of these items but I hope that my baby is happiest in my arms and that I don’t replace that special time with all these commerciall items.
